Am I the only one who is sick and tired of hearing AUKUS described as a 'wake up call' for European defence? Just a few weeks ago Afghanistan was a 'wake-up call' for Europe. And before that there was Belarus, and Ukraine, and Syria… and yet every time - every single time! - we all hit the snooze button and hope the world will just let us sleep. It won't.
